Introduction

My name is Kyleigh Salinas, this is my class blog for my Art 200x class I'm attending through UAF online. I've lived in Alaska my whole life, except in July I moved with my boyfriend to Salt Lake City, Utah. I decided to continue through UAF online because moving is chaotic and the last thing I wanted to do was transfer schools. Plus, I like UAF (and the in-state tuition.) I'm an early childhood education major and a kindergarten teacher here in Salt Lake.

An artist that I really love is Aya Takano. She's a Japanese Superflat artist who does a lot of portraits of colorful, gender ambiguous, and child-like figures. I like that her paintings are abstract and almost cartoon-like. They intentionally reflect the anime and manga art styles.

I enjoy taking art classes because I draw and paint. Usually, I mix mediums like watercolor and pen, or colored pencils and markers. I've been creating art for as long as I remember, but only as a hobby. I miss the first Fridays in Fairbanks, they don't do them here. At least not to my knowledge. But, I'm excited to visit art museums here in Salt Lake. I look forwards to this class because I'd like to understand more of the art that I look at beyond how I perceive it off the bat.
